Beijing Subway? There’s an app for that!
We’re proud to announce the launch of our second iPhone app – the Explore Beijing Subway map. We took all the best features from our Shanghai app – like route planning, offline access, bilingual versions with audio pronounciations and free updates and built what we think is the best Beijing Subway app for iPhone and iPod touch.

Shanghai Metro iPhone app updated, sneak preview of Explore Beijing app!
The latest version of our Explore Shanghai Metro map is now on the iTunes App Store! The latest update adds the latest extensions to the network: Line 11 and Line 9 phase 2. Version 1.2 is a free update for existing users! Not downloaded our app yet? It’s only $0.99 and includes:
- Every station on every line.
- Routeplanning – times and prices for any journey
- Works offline – Everything works without an Internet connection. Perfect for iPod touch users!
- Bilingual -Everything’s available in English and Chinese.

You wait ages for a iPhone metro map, then three come along at once 🙂 Building on the success of our ExploreShanghai Shanghai metro iPhone app (still available at the introductory price of just $0.99!) we’re working on not one but three new iPhone apps: ExploreBeijing, ExploreGuangzhou and ExploreHK.

Beijing Subway Line 4 opens soon!
Beijing Subway Line 4 will open on September 25, according to reports! Line 4 is run by Hong Kong’s MTR Corporation, but is fully integrated with the rest of the network (including the standard 2 RMB fare). We’ve just pushed out an update to our ExploreBeijing site with the new line.

Metro maps now twice as fast!
Check which lines are open at a glance
Another late night at the office? Worried you’re going to miss the last train home? We’ve just pushed out an update to all our maps (Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Hong Kong) which lets you see at a glance which lines are still open.
Log on to ExploreShanghai at 10:33pm and you’ll see something like this: the greyed out stations are already closed, while the white stations still have train services.
A new look for our maps
Today we launched a new standardised look for our four city sites ExploreShanghai, ExploreBeijing, ExploreGuangzhou and the brand new ExploreHK.
The navigation bar at the top of the screen has been simplified to give you quick access to the two most popular areas of the site: the interactive map and “pedia”.
